In the vernacular of musicians, this guy is a true motherfucker… Makes it look so easy. I’m simply amazed at how cool this fucking guy is. I’ve never heard of Victor Wooten and I ran across this today and I think I’m looking at black Jesus. I’m literally in awe.

If only I could have had Victor play with Michael Hedges. Individually, they play parts of at least 4 other persons, simultaneously. I was so fortunate to see Michael Hedges perform at MTSU back in the 90s when I lived in Nashville. I also got to see VW perform with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones at the 1998 Montreal Jazz Festival. The Wooten Bros played out in Nashville....I would think/hooe they still do. Do whatever you can to catch any performance of them!

Victor was on fire this day, boy. Nobody can be this every day. He had to make sure to play some melody just to show us he can still do that. Melody is good for bass cause people can feel it. I never knew I could play them until I just started one day and it's pretty nice, sounds nice on bass. Hard to be Funky and also Pretty in the same song, says a lot. Only Victor and few others can do that. Michael Jackson, Prince and people like that. James Brown was never a pretty man, but he had soul and was super bad, that's not the same as pretty. He definitely was funky, too much funk for James to be elegant or pretty. Funk is not elegant, it's nasty and it's supposed to be sexy. James was a sex machine.

So how come so many Classical works are still remembered so well today in 2024, centuries after they were written, performed and in recent times sold on playback media? Those were not based on primal instinctual grooves and dumbed down sparse orchestrations and short motif melodies, so that the mind of the ordinary person could handle it. Back then they wrote for a higher purpose, writing music like they built homes and palaces....to last the test of time!
